Puntarenas Ferry Location

The Puntarenas ferry terminal is located at the eastern tip of the Puntarenas Peninsula, near the city's main boardwalk. The terminal, officially known as Naviera Tambor Ferry Terminal, serves as the departure point for ferries heading to Paquera and Naranjo on the Nicoya Peninsula.

Its central location makes it easily accessible from San José and other parts of Costa Rica via Route 27 and Route 23. If you’re driving from San Jose, the drive is very easy on the highway, taking around 1 hour and 45 minutes without traffic. The terminal features parking areas, ticket offices, restrooms, and a few small shops and restaurants where travelers can grab a snack before boarding. Since the ferry is a popular transportation option, especially during weekends and holidays, we recommend arriving at least 30–45 minutes before departure to secure your spot.
