Begin by boarding a public bus at the Puerto Viejo bus station bound for Sixaola. This scenic ride takes about 90 minutes, with fares averaging around $3. Buses depart hourly from 6:30 AM, with the last service departing at 7:30 PM on weekdays and 6:30 PM on Sundays and holidays.
Sixola to Changuinola ($4) (45min)
Upon arrival in Sixaola, obtain an exit stamp at the Costa Rican immigration office. After crossing the Rio Sixaola bridge into Panama, pay the entry fee of CRC 2000.00 and look for a bus headed to Almirante.
Changuinola to Almirante ($3) (1hr)
Take a 1-hour bus from Changuinola to Almirante.
