There are no direct buses from Liberia to Monteverde so making this trip by bus requires a bit more fortitude. If you can afford it, a shared shuttle is a much easier form of making this trip. Making this journey by bus involves take 3 or 4 buses and can take anywhere from 3-5 hours.

OPTION A:
Liberia Airport to the Liberia Municipal Bus Station - (5 minutes) ($1)
The first bus will be from Liberia Airport to the Liberia Municipal Bus Station. Buses to the Liberia bus station pass by the airport frequently.
Liberia to San Jose bus - (1,5h) ($10)
The second bus you need is the Liberia to San Jose bus. This bus will pass through Canas and you should let the bus driver know that you plan to get off in Canas. Buses to San Jose leaves every 1-2hours from Liberia.

1- Take a bus from Liberia going towards Puntarenas at noon or before, you will have to get off at LA IRMA INTERSECTION (2 hours in bus from Liberia).
2- Get off the Bus at LA IRMA INTERSECTION (This is the entrance to Las Juntas de Abangares)
3- There will be a bus passing by this intersection coming from Puntarenas and going towards Monteverde between 2.30 – 3.00 pm. Get on this Bus. you will arrive in Santa Elena at about 4.30 or 5.00 pm.
